MARGINALISED GENDER IN LITERATURE

Change is a necessary element to any field subjective or objective, to widen  its perspective.  from- link Literature, which was inherently a male dominated field, was revolutionised by the slow intrusion and inclusion of marginalised genders. In earlier days access to literature of any language required a mastery in language which was unfortunately only a privilege that the men of the family had. Yet there were unconventional people, who believed that their daughters deserved as much of right in the field of language as their sons. Many extraordinary personalities were born of this. but unfortunately literary piece written by a woman was looked down upon, considered unequal to the ones written by male. We might as ourselves, how to solve this problem and somehow reach out to people with our words? Could we believe that the society held its prejudice so high and mighty, such cruel and insensible discriminations that people would rather lose their identity than their art...

CRIME AGAINST WOMEN

From- link   Women's violence is a problem all throughout the world. Women of all races, geographical groupings, social classes, and nationalities are affected. For a single woman, it is a life-threatening situation. In almost all societies, regions, cultures, and religious communities in India, women have been victims of violence for many years. Women in Indian society are subjected to a wide range of forms of violence, including personal, public, physical, social, emotional, and mental. Violence against women has a long history and continues to be done without a positive change. From- link    Even as people's knowledge levels rise, it is            becoming increasingly complex and rooted in         Indian society. Ineffective legal systems,                inadequate rules    of law, and male-dominated      social and political   structures...

INTERSECTIONAL FEMINISM

We all are familiar with the ‘F’ word today. I am talking about feminism, obviously! So... from- pinterest         Feminism is an idea, a movement, a structure started by the women in our society, prominently from 174 years long. Along with the passing years, the definition and the aim of feminism kept changing and we today need to understand intersectionality and feminism together. The fight was first about equality between men and women, now the fight stands to vanish the discrimination of hierarchies, of social structures like gender, caste, race, ethnicity, sexuality, ability and class. So, unfortunately equality can’t be achieved just by smashing patriarchy. When it comes to the section of gender, there are various hierarchies like- we will quite generally solve the social status of cisgender women first, and then the transgender’s. Consider caste in it-   a transgender dalit women who wants to get married to a heterosexual man, but that wouldn’t be accepte...

GENDER ROLES

Gender indicates cultural meanings stuck to being masculine and feminine, which impacts personal identities. Gender includes men, women, transgender, intersex, and genderqueer. The function or responsibility assumed or part played in a specific situation is called role. Gender roles are also known as sex roles or social roles. They are roles that incorporate a range of behaviours and attitudes that are socially and commonly considered allowable and suitable based on the person’s sex. They are usually focused on femininity and masculinity. Gender roles are socially determined, changing over time and space, and influenced by social, cultural, and environmental factors that characterize a particular community, society, or historical period. Gender roles aim to set boundaries between what is considered appropriate for women and men in society in terms of society and the private sector. Such roles were accepted as ‘natural’ and incorporated into girls and boys from a very young age, t...

GENDER SPECTRUM- BEYOND THE BINARY

Throughout our lives we have been bound to the stereotype of being bound to narrow gender  norms. Most people think that gender is simply male and female, pink and blue, plainly  binary. When we meet a new-born baby, most of us ask the same question: boy or girl?  Often, the answer is easy. Often, but not always.  We often assume a person’s gender by looking at their physical appearance. Anyone with longer hair, wearing a dress or makeup, we automatically consider female. Anyone with a  buzz cut and broad shoulders, our brain quickly considers the person male.  People frequently mistake sex and gender. Sex is purely anatomical. In simple terms, sex is  what is between your legs and gender is what is between your ears. For most kids, birth sex  and gender identity match. This population is referred to as being cisgender. In some cases,  though, children’s gender identity differs from their biology. For others, their sense of gender...

PATRIARCHY

Patriarchy is a device of relationships, beliefs, and values embedded in political, social, and monetary systems that shape gender inequality between men and women. From:  link From:  link  Attributes seen as “female” or concerning women are undervalued, whilst attributes regarded as “masculine” or touching on men are privileged. Patriarchal relations structure each the non-public and public spheres, making sure that men dominate both. Feminist scholarship strains the histories and the geographies of patriarchal members of the family to illustrate that patriarchy manifests in dynamic and flexible methods to be able to preserve patriarchal family members. These strategies theorize the linkages among patriarchy and capitalism, colonialism, and nationalism, arguing that patriarchal members of the family perform throughout scales in methods that now not most effective represent the ones scales however also order social relations in hierarchical relationships. Such research ex...

‘Kiran is not yours, No-body is.’

Representation in pop culture From:  link      Pop culture shapes our minds as we grow up. Almost every Bollywood film or song contains subtle sexism. Pop culture frequently misrepresents or underrepresents women and LGBTQIA++ people, and stereotypes different genders globally. We live in a patriarchal society, and men still dominate the pop culture industry. Women are often seen as ‘add-ons' or supporting characters. Less women and queer people work behind the camera, which is reflected in the movies. Do you know a movie where a trans person played a trans person? Even in the recently released film ‘Gangubai Kathiawadi,' cis-gender actor Vijay Raaz plays a transwoman. From:  link There is no representation in the changing industry. In popular culture, ‘good' women are submissive, unambitious, and helpless, always sacrificing. Men are there to protect, provide financially, be dominant and assertive. Consider the film 'Kabir Singh.' It is blatant abuse, ...

GENDER STEREOTYPING

Gender stereotypes are a daily motion and are very normalized. Every day in our lives, we go through conditions wherein we see or sufferer a misogynist remark or action because of our gender. We all have absorbed gender stereotypes into our system that we forget to think logically about such attitudes and behaviours. And somehow become a part of it by either experiencing it or by actually doing it or by just quietly watching it happening around. Every day, we as individuals are bombarded with an overwhelming amount of information, and so, to make sense of it all and the world around us, we stereotype, putting things and people into boxes we can easily arrange and organize. Oh, you’re a girl? You must love to cook. You’re a guy? You must love tools. Of course, it’s much more complex than that, but in essence, that’s what our brains do. Wrongly judging or putting down males for engaging in activities or behaviours that are stereotypically “female”, like playing with dolls, inter...
